Navigating Pregnancy: My Top Must-Have List for Moms-to-Be

Mom to be getting ready for new baby

Hey there, moms and moms-to-be! 🌟

As many of you know, I’m a mom of two kiddos (now 3 and 7), and let me tell you, both of my pregnancies were worlds apart. With my first baby, I was in Mexico, clueless about what I needed. At that time, one of my friends was pregnant too, and we were both stumbling through it together with no idea what we were doing. 🤷‍♀️

Fast forward to my second pregnancy—I was already a sleep coach, surrounded by a wonderful community of moms. This time, I felt so much more confident and empowered, making the right decisions about what I needed to prepare for my baby’s arrival. 💪

Over the years, I’ve put a lot of thought and effort into creating this list, which I started three years ago during my second pregnancy. A lot has changed since then—new products on the market, and I’ve added priority tags because, let’s be honest, half the stuff out there isn’t crucial. I want to share this updated list with you to make your journey smoother. Remember, you don’t need the latest and most expensive gadgets. Your baby needs you—a confident, happy, and healthy you! ❤️

What you will find in this article:

One of my favorite parts of this resource is the Excel document. I’m no Excel expert, but I love how it helps me manage what I buy and keep track of my expenses. I hope you find it just as useful!

If you download and print this guide, please tag me and share it with your friends! If you think the list is missing something, I’d love to hear from you.

Here’s the link to every product (yes, they are affiliate links, and I do get a commission, yay!).

So dive in, and let’s make this journey a little easier together! 🌟

Basics

As much as I love trying new brands, this time I'm going with basic brands and stores, looking for easy returns and pick-ups (Amazon and Target), or things that I used during my pregnancies and worked for me. Scroll down to find some of the links!

Bedside Bassinet. I want to start by saying that your baby will only sleep here for about 5 months (depending on the brand and weight). I love the ones in which you can pull one side and are very close to your baby; this is so helpful for soothing in the middle of the night.

Baby Delight / Amazon This is the one I used with my second baby, great price, and the perfect size.

Snoo / Amazon This is the most expensive option; you can rent one instead of buying one. Will your baby sleep better? It gives your little one more support, but I have also coached families who used the Snoo and ended up co-sleeping because they didn't like it.

Diapers. I recommend buying two sizes: Newborn and Stage 1, since you don't know how long your baby will need the Newborn size. My favorites are Pampers Swaddlers and Honest. I have tried many brands, and it always comes down to these two.

Pampers Swaddlers / Amazon Yes, buy the 140 diapers box, you will most definitely use them all.

Pacifiers. My first baby didn't like the pacifier, but my second did! It is a great ally for sleeping and a powerful tool, and the AAP recommends using it during the first months.

Glow in the Dark: Amazon Yes, glow-in-the-dark pacifiers are a thing! You won't believe how useful they are until you're in a dark room with a crying baby, trying to find a paci.

Detergent. The first time I made this list, I recommended Dreft because it's a classic, easy to find, and affordable option. However, I've recently started using cleaner brands at home and found some great alternatives for your baby.

Diaper bag. This will be your new best friend for about two years, so make sure you like it! For me, it's very important that it's a backpack.

Lululemon I don't think this one was out 3 years ago, it looks so nice!

Skip Hop: Amazon This is a great brand, their products are very resistant.

Portable changing station. When we are out, sometimes I go to the restroom with just this, or my husband can take it and not take my whole bag.

Baby Carrier. I didn't use one with my first baby, but it was a life changer with my second, especially for doing things around the house and for contact naps. Yes, contact naps will happen at some point, and it is the sweetest thing you can do with your little one. It's crucial to buy a good carrier to ensure it supports your posture and is safe for the baby.

Stroller & car seat. I recently came across this brand (Zoe) at a mom's summit, and I think it has great features.

Zoe Baby This stroller does not have a car seat or bassinet for newborn babies.

Baby bouncer. It is very useful to have somewhere safe to place your baby because, as much as you will love your little one, you will need to have your arms free to keep doing life. Here are some options:

4mom MamaRoo. I used this one with my second baby, and it was great. However, I'm not sure it is worth the investment since you use it for only about 3 months. But to be honest, he loved it, and he would take short naps (always supervised) there.

Eat

Everything you need to feed your baby; varies depending on breastfeeding or formula-fed; I recommend you get ready for both!

Breastpump. So many options! Generally your insurance will cover one; I personally like Medela products. But there are so many new options, here is one with great reviews:

Clean

Everything to keep your little one squeaky clean.

Bath products: My favorite brand is Honest: Shampoo & Body Wash, Body Lotion.

Aquaphore or Vaseline

Bathtub.I prefer a bath stand, I usually place this one inside my shower and I find it more comfortable.

Hairbrush

Nail clipper

Cotton balls

Baby wipes

Towels.

Diaper genie refill bags. Yes, make sure you have a few refills!

Sleep

Crib sheets.

Crib mattress

Crib waterproof cover

Swaddle blankets

White noise machine (you can also use Alexa, it has a skill that works on a loop all night). Here are some options: Hatch Baby, Frida Baby, Momcozy.

Clothes

If you are a new mom, you are probably buying lots of clothes, and everybody might tell you that you don't need that many. But it's your first baby, and it's completely fine to fall in love with every cute outfit you see online. Aside from buying all those cute things, here is a useful guide on what to have to welcome your baby and ensure you have at least what you need for the first three months.

5 Onesies NB. I like the ones with a side snap for the first months.

5 Onesies 3 months

5 Onesies 3 to 6 months

4 Pajamas NB

4 Pajamas 0 to 3 months

4 Pajamas 3 to 6 months

5 pair of socks

2 pairs of mittens

3 beanies

2 Pants 0 to 3 months

2 pant 3 to 6 months

Mom stuff

This is my favorite section! We need a lot, because we are recovering physically and mentally and we need to take care of ourselves.

Nursing bras. Finding the right nursing bra is so hard; you have no idea how your boobs are going to be. I suggest that you buy one from 2 or 3 brands and then pick the one fits better. Here are some options:

Tops for nursing. At least for the first months, I like to have "easy access", so I make sure I have clothes (tops) that fit and that I feel comfortable nursing wearing them.

Nipple cream

Nursing pads

Diapers and napkis for postpartum (you get these at the hospital).
